It is important, when sending in a CV or job application form, to include a covering letter. The latter should be customised for each job application where skill and demands required can be tailored made. The purpose of the letter is the following:
- To personalised your CV
- To make sure that the CV arrives on the desk of the correct person
- To persuade the employer to read your CV
- To clearly mentioned the specific job you are interested in
- To defend why you are the best candidate for the job
- To draw attention to one or two key points in the CV that may suit the job in focus

The following is important:
- Find the name of the person who will be dealing with your application
- Find the right address and the right department of the Company
- Start your letter by underlining the job title you are interested in
- Mention where you saw the job advertisement
- Use the style and pattern of a business letter
- The letter should not exceed one page of an A4 paper
- The letter must be polite and easy to read
- Mention your availability for an interview
- Finalise your letter with a request for specific extra information may be sent any time
- Try to call the right person around two weeks later so as to know the status of your application
